The Iyengar Yoga method was developed by Yogacharya B.K.S Iyengar through a lifetime of his devoted practice and study. It is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga of Patanjali taught over 2,500 years ago.

Iyengar Yoga is suitable for all ages, abilities and levels of well-being. It places emphasis on detail, precision and energetic alignment in the poses to develop strength, endurance and suppleness – physically, psychologically, mentally and emotionally.

The system of teaching helps students progress gradually from beginner to advanced. Props such as blocks, belts and blankets may be used to develop a better understanding of practice and to make yoga accessible to everyone.

The practice is often described as meditation in action, because it helps develop awareness and the mind is trained to stay in the present moment.

The Iyengar Certification mark is used by all certified teachers worldwide as an international symbol of the highest standards of excellence in training and continuing education in the Iyengar method.
